SUSAN

As a 57-year-old postmenopausal athlete, after many years of cycling, I was feeling very frustrated with my training. I would do long or hard rides with friends and be so tired for days afterward that I would take multiple days off or end up side-lined with back pain or other injuries. I signed up for many events only to back out at the last minute because I wasn’t ready or was down with back problems.

I knew that I needed guidance and consistency in my routine but didn’t know how. I reached out to Sue Allen and she agreed to coach me. Shortly thereafter, I went over the bars on my mountain bike and damaged my rotator cuff! I was in physical therapy for a few months and then had shoulder surgery.

Once the doctor released me to start riding again, I worked with Sue on a plan to regain my strength and rebuild my cycling fitness. Seven months post-surgery, I completed an 85-mile mountainous gravel ride! I have competed in other events this summer as well and have not missed any training due to back pain or other issues.

When I was younger, I got away with a lot of bad training habits. Between old injuries and ageing, recovery is more important than ever. I want to continue to go on long rides, do crazy things on bikes, and enjoy life for many more years. Sue is helping me balance training and recovery to hit all of my goals. She is very knowledgeable and responsive to all of my questions and builds reasonable plans that help me maintain a balance between training and all the things I have going on in my life.

I highly recommend Sue Allen at Velo Performance.
