Velo Coach Sue has helped plenty of women get the best from their training and strength training to take on some big adventures and get ready for UCI Grand Fondos. This is Pen. Sue is working with her through the winter into 2027.
Before I started working with Sue, the hardest thing was knowing how to train effectively and consistently rather than simply riding more or following an off the shelf or “AI” delivered plan. I wanted to build sustainable consistency, fitness and confidence for longer rides and climbing. I ultimately wanted to compete at a Masters Gran Fondo and cycle mountain passes on holiday in Europe.
I needed a clear structure that worked around real life and helped me understand what each session was actually achieving. Sue is so patient with me, explaining what each session is all about and answering all my questions too.
What I like most is how personalised and structured it is, but with flexibility if life events come up. The regular training chats with Sue give me accountability, progression and the chance to adjust things as needed. It makes training feel much more focused and manageable.
Sue is great at giving encouraging and insightful notes on my workout entries. Whether she intends it or not, that positive reinforcement really helps. As a newbie to cycling training, I really appreciate her encouragement.
Standout returns in working with Sue:
The standout benefit is a massive increase in cycling fitness, resilience and stamina, without wrecking myself or getting injured, more confidence in my ability to tackle longer and more demanding rides.
Better structure and consistency in my training, with a clearer understanding of what I am trying to achieve in each session. Less guesswork and anxiety about whether I am doing the right thing. Before, I would often chop and change approach. I can relax about what I should be doing. I just look at the plan and schedule it into my week.
I would absolutely recommend Sue and VPCC to cyclists who want thoughtful, personalised coaching rather than a generic training plan. Alongside my one-to-one coaching with Sue, the wider Velo Performance coaching team provides useful, well thought out, evidence-based education on everyday nutrition, strength training and how to fuel training and events. They make the science easy to understand and put into practice. I’m learning more about my training and why I’m doing it, which makes the whole experience even more valuable.
Sue brings structure, gentle accountability and practical advice, while understanding that cycling has to fit around other life priorities. She supports my goals with realistic and achievable milestones.
I have improved at every step, and that progress builds confidence, motivation and consistency. I love the process and can see myself continuing to improve. I feel much more positive and purposeful in my riding as a result.
