Do you need to set New Year goals?

January is a great time to set goals but what if you're NOT a New Year resolution goal-setting type of cyclist? What if you haven't started to plan or don't have anything to aim for right now other than improving your strength and speed on the bike, the way you eat to improve your health, well-being and power-to-weight ratios? 

These are all excellent cycling and life goals to pursue in the upcoming year. To make these happen, keep focused It can be motivating to set a few personal commitments or goals for oneself.

  1. Commit to Key Sessions:

Make a promise to yourself to commit to key sessions each week

  • 1 x Specific Session: Dedicate time to 1 session each week on an aspect of your cycling you want to improve and build on it weekly. 

  • 2 x Gym Sessions: Strength is a base to your power and average endurance speed. Your focus should be to increase strength across all your major lifts.

  • 1 x Long Ride: This builds endurance, mental toughness, and a solid aerobic foundation which will get you in great shape to ride long summer days and feel strong.

  1. Plan the Plan:

Plan your training week. Organize your schedule to prioritize these sessions, ensuring they become non-negotiable appointments with your bike or the gym. Having a structured plan makes it easier to stay on track and see progress.

  1. Health Over Weight Goals:

Shift your focus from weight-centric goals to health-centric ones. Make a promise to yourself to:

  • Drink 2 Liters of Fresh Water a Day: Hydration is crucial for performance and recovery.

  • Eat 3 Main Meals a Day: Prioritize well-balanced meals rich in protein, spread throughout the day. Avoid mindless snacking between meals.

By concentrating on health goals, you'll naturally enhance your overall well-being and fuel your body for peak performance.

So there you have it - goals for cyclists who aren't fans of setting BIG goals. By making these commitments, planning your training, prioritizing health, and thinking long-term, you'll find yourself not only getting faster but enjoying the journey along the way. Here's to a stronger, faster, and healthier you!
